Lex is an entrepreneur passionate about the intersection of financial services, new media and technology. He has operating and board-level FinTech experience in digital advice, personal finance, capital markets and wealth management. Lex has been referred to by as the "financial futurist", selected for the InvestmentNews  "40 under 40", and honored by ThinkAdvisor's annual "IA25" list of emerging influences in the investment industry.

Currently, Lex is a partner and Global Director Fintech Strategy at Autonomous, the leading research firm for the financial sector. His mission is to help the industry serve clients better by leveraging innovations like big data and machine learning, cryptocurrency and digital ledgers, wearable technology and augmented reality, and crowd-sourced asset management. 

Previously, Lex was the COO and partner of wealth management platform Vanare, which helps investment firms deliver digital advice at scale. In that role, he oversaw product design and business development, establishing the firm as a key innovator in the industry with over 20 institutional clients. Prior to Vanare, he was founder and CEO of roboadvisor NestEgg Wealth, a next-generation technology company and RIA that pioneered online wealth management in partnership with financial advisors. Additionally, Lex was an investment banker at Deutsche Bank in the Financial Institutions and Media & Technology groups, and a member of the Strategy team at Barclays Wealth (formerly Lehman Brothers Investment Management). He is active in the early-stage startup scene, and has advised multiple startups on growth and market strategy.

Lex received a B.A. in Economics and Law from Amherst College, an M.B.A from Columbia Business School and a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He also holds a Certificate in International Relations from the Five College Consortium, and a Certificate in Digital Production and New Media Studies from Middlebury College.


Lex is on a mission to help the industry see that the current focus on digital advice providers — the roboadvisors — is merely a precursor to much larger developments. He is educating, opening minds and starting conversations about what role such tech trends as wearable technology, image recognition, machine learning, bitcoin, ethereum and the blockchain, and crowd-sourced asset classes will have on the financial advice industry.

These innovations will continue to disrupt the infrastructure of the industry, challenge the client-advisor relationship, and democratize access to high quality saving and investing for millions of people.

He has spoken about the future of technology and achieving extraordinary growth at industry conferences like In|Vest, T3 Enterprise Edition, and the Financial Planning Association BE. Lex is also a contributor of thought leadership to CNBC, Techonomy, ThinkAdvisor,, Investment News, AssetTV, and RIABiz.
